Several types of cell phone batteries are available. Choosing the right battery helps improve talk-time, and some are even safer for the environment.

What was once a large, bulky device, the cell phone comes as a tiny, pocket-sized device with Internet, text message and application technology. A cell phone is now a vital part of a worker’s day, which is why the best types of cell phone batteries are used to increase the amount of time the worker can use the phone. The type of cell phone batteries chosen for a phone will also determine the size of the device and how safe it is for the environment.

Lithium Cell Phone Batteries

Lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries make up some of the more advanced types of cell phone batteries. Lithium ion and polymer are used by some of the more advanced cell phones like the iPhone and Blackberry. These cell phone batteries don’t suffer from some of the older technologies used by older phones.

A lithium cell phone battery can be charged at any time. Older phone owners had to let the battery lose a charge. If the cell phone owner charged the battery at half power, the battery would lose memory and slowly degrade for every time the owner charged the battery. Eventually, the cell phone battery died and the owner was forced to purchase a new unit.

This type of problem is not an issue with lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries. These two types of cell phone batteries can also be charged remotely using the new Powermat, which is a new device for people who need to charge several devices at one time. These cell phone batteries are also slim, light and better for the environment than some of the other units on the market.

Additionally, lithium polymer cell phone batteries don’t fully discharge. This means that even when the battery has fully expired all of its energy, there is a small part of it that retains a charge. For cell phone users, this means that they will not lose some of the basic memory functions like contacts, settings and text messages stored on the phone.

Nickel Metal Hydride Cell Phone Batteries

Nickel metal hydride cell phone batteries are used by people who need a good battery, but they want a unit that is safer for the environment. However, this battery suffers from the “memory effect.” This means it may fully discharge, and lose its integrity. These cell phone batteries were used mostly as a replacement for older cell phone battery technology. They have a longer lifespan, and they are more easily recyclable.

For people looking for the best types of cell phone batteries, look for a lithium ion or lithium polymer battery. If longevity is not an issue, a nickel metal hydride battery may be a better choice for people who are concerned with recycling. Read the manufacturer’s paperwork to ensure the type of cell phone batteries chosen is compatible with the cell phone model.
