With an influx of iPhone Apps suddenly available in the App Store on iTunes, it can be hard to know which are worth downloading and which are a waste of time.

There are a variety of Apps available, all of which offer a variety of activities that just make day-to-day living easier. From a shopping list, tip calculator, weight-loss monitor and gas price tracker, to virtual bowling alley, chess board and air hockey table. The downside is these Apps range from free to $0.99 and often higher (Who pays $9.99?) However, you don't have to spend a lot of money downloading games or utilities to get some fun and addicting ones.

Here are a list of some of the better (free) Apps on the market.

Great Games for the iPhone

Topple and Topple 2: A more animated version of Tetris, with a twist... stack the blocks as high and sturdy as possible without making them topple over.

Labyrinth LE: Relive childhood memories of those dinky games found at arcades, the dollar store or in birthday party loot bags.... the ones where players must maneouvre the metal ball to the end of the maze without sinking it in one of the many strategically-placed holes. Tilt the phone to move the ball from side to side, but watch out!!

iBowl: Bowling for the iPhone, complete with realistic sounds, but minus the cheesy, ugly shoes. Just beware to not let go of the iPhone when swinging it to toss the ball down the lane. Wristband not included.

PapiJump: An addicting game, somewhat like pong, where players must see how high they can get the ball to "jump" up level by level without having it miss and fall to a sad loss... requires players to physically tilt the phone from side to side to move the ball.

Fish Frenzy: A battle for who is king of the sea. Eat the smaller fish first, growing with size the more that get eaten. Beware of sharks and jellyfish.

Useful Utilities for the iPhone

Shopping List Lite: A completely customizable App where users create, edit and prepare shopping lists. Scratch off items as they're found, reset list for the next use. Once list has been created, if App is exited, it refreshes to tell users how many new items are on list. Hard to ignore.

Urban Spoon: Have a hankering for Italian food? Want to know the nearest fast food joint? Just search for restaurants with this App. Lock in price, proximity, type. Not sure what to eat? Shake for a completely random suggestion. Includes ability to search address, or call the location.

Shazam: Listening to a song on the radio, but not sure what the name is, or who sings it? Just activate the App, place the phone near the radio and "tag" the song to see full details on the song. Includes the ability to listen to a clip or download right to the phone via iTunes.

Flixster: View movie listings right on the iPhone. Check what time local theatres are playing the movie, read a review or watch the movie trailer right on the phone.

WebMD: Feeling sick? Search symptoms right on the phone. *Not a substitute for professional medical advice.

One of the fun and attractive aspects of owning an iPhone is the ability to not only use the device as a telephone, mini computer and GPS device, but also as a game console, calculator, and more. Keep an eye out for the fun and useful free Apps available in the Application Store, which can be found directly on the iPhone.
