Social Networking gives users a great way to stay in touch with friends, colleagues, and family, many of whom are far away. Find out how to stay in touch on the go!

The BlackBerry solution can keep employees in touch with the office when they are out with friends, but with new applications for BlackBerry, now employees can keep in touch with friends while they are at the office, too.

The lines between home and office are blurring, and with Generation Y they barely even exist. Today's users keep in touch and work together differently, and Facebook, MySpace, and instant messaging are examples of that new reality.

With Facebook and MySpace, users create their own personal webpages without a need to understand programming or HTML. Templates exist that allow easy upload of personal details and photos. While these applications have always been available on a BlackBerry through the browser, accessing them was time consuming and cumbersome. Now, standalone applications for the BlackBerry exist that allow users to get key updates without the need to open the browser.

BlackBerry Facebook

The Facebook for BlackBerry application was developed by Research in Motion, Ltd (RIM), the makers of BlackBerry, to allow users to get updates on the go. The application's creation was timed around the launch of several consumer-targeted devices, such as the BlackBerry Pearl and the BlackBerry Curve.

The software adds an icon to the user's desktop, and if an update is received a notice appears in the top left portion of the screen near where email and voice mail alerts appear.

From the device, users can update their status and see others' status updates, view and upload photos directly from the device, see new wall posts, and receive messages.

BlackBerry MySpace

The MySpace for BlackBerry Smartphones application allows users of MySpace to:

  • Send and receive MySpace mail
  • Update Status and Mood
  • View and send Bulletins
  • Add comments
  • Post photos

Like the BlackBerry Facebook application, the software is free and can be downloaded from the links above.

BlackBerry Instant Messaging

BlackBerry smartphones also come equipped with their own built in instant messaging (IM) platform, BlackBerry Messenger. Users can invite other BlackBerry owners by contacting them from within the BlackBerry Messenger application via email address. The invitee receives a message, and if it is accepted, the users can contact each other.

In addition to BlackBerry Messenger, the BlackBerry solution also supports many corporate instant messaging tools, such as IBM Lotus Sametime.

So, while your BlackBerry is a great work tool, RIM understands users need to have fun, too! Enjoy staying in touch with a personal network with Facebook, MySpace, and instant messaging.
