Palm and Symbol, watch your market share! Imagine an add on for BlackBerry smartphones that allows a user to sign the screen and scan a barcode. It's possible!

EnterMo Limited is an Australian-based company with an exciting new product, the EnterMo case. The EnterMo case allows users to place a BlackBerry Curve inside a plastic case that has a built in signature capture screen and barcode scanner.

After uploading demo software, the user can scan barcodes into a Java application and capture signatures as an image. With a bit of custom application development from a systems integrator, an organization could use this device to capture order and delivery information and pass those details back to their existing databases.

Because the case is built to work with the BlackBerry Curve, the Curve's extensive feature set, such as GPS, Wi-Fi (some models), mapping, an internet browser, instant messaging, phone, is available as well. The case also includes a secondary battery to work with the device to ensure sufficient battery life. A holster and cradle for charging are also included.

Target industries for the case include transportation, logistics, and field service; however, the device could be used by many other organizations for field sales representatives or delivery people.

BlackBerry Signature Capture

BlackBerry has always been the defacto leader for enterprise mobile email. Palm groupies, though, would tell you their devices are better for any application where a signature must be captured. And while there have been some other solutions out there, none are as elegant as the EnterMo case.

The EnterMo case has a clear screen that goes over the BlackBerry smartphone's screen. The stylus is attached via a tether and fits into a slot on to on the back of the holster. The user can use the stylus to sign the screen, and the signature is captured.

Users are finding signature capture very useful for proof of delivery or proof of purchase.

BlackBerry Barcode Scanner

In addition to signature capture, the EnterMo device also has a built in barcode scanner. This allows the device to be used to read employee badges, SKUs on items in a warehouse, or tags on packages. When combined with the signature capture, the possible uses for field sales and delivery people are endless.

Pricing on the units is still being determined as the product is new, but preliminary pricing brings the case to about half the cost of some Symbol devices now in use.

Additional Information

Currently, test and demo units are available as the company gathers orders for its first planned full production run during the summer of 2009.

While the EnterMo case currently works only with the BlackBerry Curve, the company plans to support other devices in the future. For additional details, contact your carrier sales representative or EnterMo directly.
