Everyone today has a mobile phone, from middle school children to senior citizens, people everywhere have found communication technology to be a necessary part of life in the 21st century. Consequently, one’s cell phone has become not only a “must-have business tool”, but a customizable accessory. Some of the ways to personalize your phone is with ringtones, skins, and features like the Verizon ringback tones.
Ringback tones are a phone personalization service that allows one to select songs, sound clips, messages and even movie sound files, to be played instead of the traditional ringing. Ringback tone selections range from Inspirational music to alternative, Hip-Hop to Holiday, Classic Rock to Country, Movie Soundtracks to Sports and many other sounds from serious to quirky.
Ringback Tones Facts
Ringback tones are stored by the phone company on their network’s server. When a call is made the network server must check to see which song has been assigned and then play it until the phone call is answered. Once ringback tones have been purchased they are usually are good for one year. They can then be renewed or replaced with a new selection.
Not every cell phone company has the option of ringback tones. Also, older or more basic cell phones may have pre-loaded ringback tones or may not have the capability to even support ringback tones. Also, it is important to not the difference between ringback tones and ringtones. A ringtone is the sound heard by others when a call is made; a ringback tone is the sound/song etc. heard by the person making the call.
How much do ringback tones cost? Although there is much interest in free ringback tones, there really aren’t many companies willing to provide this feature for free. It is standard to pay $0.99 per ringback tone and a monthly charge that may range from $1.49 to $1.99 per month. Some cellular phone providers offer ringback tone “bundles” that range in price from a flat rate for numerous ringback tones to 5 ringback tones for $15 or 8 for $20.
Ringback Tone Features:Different ringback tones can be assigned to specific callers, caller groups, and times of day or days of week. A caller greeting can also be set up; this is a short message that precedes the ringback tone and informs the caller of what to expect (i.e. “Please enjoy the music while your party is reached.”)
Another great ringback tone feature is called a Jukebox and allows one to have random songs (as many as 15 can usually be selected) played when someone calls. This is a nice feature as it means that callers get to hear a variety of songs…depending on how often they may call.
