LG makes a splash at CES with several cool new phones but their Watch Phone has many drooling with fevered anticipation.
The idea of a cell phone watch is nothing new and indeed has been envisioned by tech-geeks for decades. Issues aplenty come up whenever a company explores the idea of the cell phone watch. Generally the problems circle around how to make a quality phone and a quality watch without the price being too high. Size is also a huge area of concern for the watch phone. Anything too big quickly loses its appeal and practicality. The Solution is HereLG it seems to have solved these problems with style and panache. The Watch Phone looks beautiful with its sleek simple style and the size is appropriate for both form and function. Tempered glass similar to the iPhone lends the Watch Phone a beautiful face as its touch-screen. The editors of CNET didn’t get to touch the screen at CES but reported the transitions between screens seemed flawless and the small screen, measuring 1.43 inches diagonally, didn’t appear to hamper ease of use. The LG Watch Phone Features The following is the anticipated partial feature list:
Quite how these will stack up on a device so small remains to be seen. However, LG have released some pictures, and general style information. LG Watch Phone StylingThe LG Watch Phone will come in a variety of colors ranging from pink, blue, green, and teal and will be available in either leather or carbon fiber. The casing is metal and gives the Watch Phone a nice shiny finish. Unisex in appearance the Watch Phone should appeal to both men and women. Side buttons of Talk, Clear and End look no different than knobs on regular watches and will offer nice tactile modes for the operation of the Watch Phone. AvailabilityUnfortunately for those in the States the LG Watch Phone will only be available in Europe later in the year. Unlocked versions will hopefully be available to purchase online but as with all unlocked mobile devices, the price will be much higher than if purchased through a cellular provider stateside. But if the LG Watch Phone makes its way to the states, the price will still likely be a deterrent for many. Bottom LineFor those who love the James Bond movies for Q’s gallery of gadgets and the cult followers of Dick Tracy, LG has provided a must have gadget for fan boys; but the style and the potential versatility of the LG Watch Phone should appeal to a diverse crowd of consumers. The LG Watch Phone, watch out for it later this year.
